September Reset
While most people think of January as the month for new beginnings, I think of September as the “reset month”. With summer winding down, the kids going back to school, and the fall weather beginning to settle in, September is the perfect month to take stock of how the year has gone so far and to make any necessary adjustments for the remainder of the year. Did you manage to lose those stubborn extra pounds so you could wear that dream dress or swimsuit? Did you get to take time off and relax with family and friends over the summer? What about that book you wanted to read? How have your plans for consistently exercising and eating more healthy foods gone? That wardrobe change you planned several months ago? Self-care goals? The questions are endless. The only thing that seems short is the time. Not sure where that went even although there have been days when it seemed as if things were at a standstill. Undoubtedly, it has been an eventful year-good and bad- but if we are fortunate to see another day, we have the opportunity to hit that reset button.
Old habits die hard and, frankly, life easily gets in the way of well-thought-out plans. It takes perseverance, creativity, planning, and boundaries to make time for what is important. I call it “claiming my time”- blocking time on my calendar days or weeks in advance, or sometimes on a whim. I love the latter for some reason. Maybe it makes me feel a bit badass! Either way that helps me feel less guilty about saying no to someone and gives me one less excuse for not getting things done for myself. By unapologetically claiming my time to do whatever- craft, exercise, work on my business and personal goals- I am hopefully also teaching my kids about building healthy habits. Sometimes the time I am able claim as mine is short because of competing priorities but I try to maximize those moments by focusing on the most important thing I need in that moment. What I don’t do is to give up and be swept up by the crazy whirlwind of life.
So, this September, as the temperatures start dipping and the leaves crisp up, we can each reaffirm what is important to us personally and work hard to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. A great daily personal companion and a physical reminder of your why would be the gorgeous Design by O.H. bag charm Korantemaa which symbolizes perseverance. Success does not happen by chance. It takes grit. Clip Korantemaa on your bag as you hit the reset button and claim your time for what is important!
