Coming Into One’s Own: Style, Heritage & Self-Discovery

A Seasonal Brand Campaign & Editorial by Ohenewaa (O.H.)

There comes a moment in every woman’s life when the question “Who am I?” stops feeling abstract — and instead becomes an invitation. An opening. A turning point. Not in the loud, dramatic sense, but in the quiet way clarity arrives: softly, steadily, almost imperceptibly at first… until you realize you’ve crossed a threshold.

For me, that moment arrived in my forties.

It’s the decade where self-discovery feels less like a phase and more like a returning. A remembering. A rooting into everything that shaped me — the girl I was, the woman I have become, and the woman I am still becoming. My heritage, my journey across continents, my evolving style, my values… all of it converged into something deeply true.

This season at Design by O.H., I’m celebrating exactly that:
Coming Into One’s Own — where style, heritage, and self-discovery meet.

It is not just a theme.
It is a lived experience — mine, yours, and every woman walking her own layered, beautiful path.

Heritage Is Not a Place — It’s a Story You Carry

In Ghana, “where you come from” isn’t about where you were born. It’s about lineage — your ethnic roots, your town, your mother tongue. And for me, understanding that difference has shaped so much of my identity.

I grew up in Kumasi, the cultural heartbeat of the Ashanti Region.
But where I come from — where my roots truly live — is Abiriw, a town in Akuapem where the Okere language is spoken.

Okere wasn’t written when I was a child. It lived in our mouths, in our homes, in our stories. My father insisted we speak it daily, and because of that, I carry my heritage in the most intimate way: my language lives in me.

My brand, my art, my creativity — all of it is an extension of that inheritance.

Quiet Luxury. Loud Heritage. ™

As I’ve evolved, so has my personal style. Not louder — but more intentional. More soulful. More me.

I’ve learned that quiet luxury isn’t about minimalism or silence.
It’s about depth.
It’s about choosing pieces that hold meaning.
It’s about wearing your identity — not just a label.

This belief sits at the heart of both collections launching this season.

The Nkasi Scarf Collection

Inspired by the bead pattern of the Okani Charm — hand-sketched by me, digitized with the help of my sister and stepdaughter — and handcrafted in NYC’s garment district. Nkasi (or Nkase) means “young ladies” in my mother tongue, Okere.

Not young as in age.
Young as in spirit.
As in confidence.
As in evolution.

Because style evolves — and so do we.

The New Charm Collection: Coming Into One’s Own

Six new designs, each representing a milestone in emotional and personal growth:

  • Esi – Assertiveness
  • Sonkyi – Self-Confidence
  • Ayisibea – Boundaries
  • Adobea – Authenticity
  • Odamea – Discipline
  • Osaebea – Contentment

Each charm is a wearable affirmation crafted with recycled Ghanaian beads and grounded in deep symbolism. These aren’t just accessories. They are anchors. Reminders. Companions on your journey toward who you’re becoming.

Becoming Yourself Is A Style Journey Too

In my forties, I embraced style in a new way:
Not as something to impress others — but as a reflection of who I am. A mix of heritage, modernity, quiet confidence, and joyful experimentation.

Some days I reach for bold color. Other days, something understated. But every day, I choose an intention — often symbolized through a charm on my handbag or the scarf draped around my neck.

These pieces make me feel grounded. Expressive. Seen. I created them with the hope that they’ll do the same for you.

Coming Into One’s Own — A Celebration

So, I pose the question to you:

Who are you becoming?

Who are you when you peel back expectations, assumptions, and inherited narratives? Who are you when you give yourself permission to evolve?

This season’s campaign is not simply about new products — It’s about honoring your own unfolding.

It’s about embracing the beauty of complexity.
The courage of authenticity.
The necessity of boundaries.
The power of confidence.
The discipline to grow.
And the contentment to appreciate who you are today.

Because you are a work of art — in progress, on purpose, and always evolving.
